I have some AJAX samples & source code at clearnova.com/ajax [clearnova.com/ajax]. These are samples I used at the Atlanta Java Users Group last month.

you mentioned in maps.group.stumbleupon.com/forum/15535/ [maps.group.stumbleupon.com/forum/15535/] some nice resource sites i feel like repeating here:

openrico.org [openrico.org] has cool demos
prototype.conio.net [prototype.conio.net] has a downloadable engine(?)

also check out script.aculo.us [script.aculo.us] for a bunch of demos of related js and rubyonrails.org [rubyonrails.org]

All three of these projects should merge into one. We're basing our framework & tools off of openrico + prototype -- aculo has some interesting and cool stuff.

I'm working on a little thing myself. I'll post some details soon.

Some of that code made my eyes hurt but I see it's powerful. My stuff is more toward using the filesystem as much as possible.

glad to meet y'all - I just started messing with the script.aculo.us packages as a way to upgrade a fairly boring app. :)

I think one of the dangers is just adding fluff though. I sure hope that AJAX doesnt go through what flash did with intros and other annoyances.

eyevariety--it will. new technology or new adoptions ALWAYS go overboard. There will be people who do flash stuff and DHTML effects just because they can. And there will be some bad, non-intuitive uses of it. Luckily, because of the web, there is a higher awareness of usability + design so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Yeah I just look through Script.aculo.us and think that a lot of kids are going to be making some ugly stuff with that code. I really don't like how they have all those preset animations so that anybody can add it for no good reason. It is a great way to add some animation but lets hope you have a reason. BTW: Your samples are jsut great.

I have two words: < BLINK > and < MARQUEE > -- two HTML tags that should have never been put into HTML. Remember the early web days...blinking and scrolling. Looks familiar to some of the visual effects we see in AJAX/DHTML land these days.

There are a few animations I like -- like fade in and fade out. Or fade up/Fade down. When deleting/inserting a row in a list they are nice. Having colors change gradually is kind of cool too for certain uses. Although the fade time can't be too long, otherwise its annoying.

Anything that involves moving things around on the screen or bouncing text or things like that--ugg. Lets just hope no one discovers the 'fly in' effect ala PowerPoint. The most overused, worthless, text effect ever.

thanks for the kind words on the samples. Hoping to get an update done on them in a week or so.
